Have you ever needed a vacation from your vacation? Us too. 🙂
We just got back from our latest family vacation and here’s how it went down.
With three young boys we’ve just about seen it all when it comes to traveling. For spring break this year we went to Orlando which is funny because we are not crazy Disney Park fans. But that sunshine and warm weather keeps us coming back!
We stayed on Disney property this year vs. previously renting a home on Airbnb and our room was just a simple hotel room with 2 double beds, and 1 pull out bed… with 6 people total to share this space. SIX PEOPLE. Count them up… us, our three boys and Mandy’s cousin. That’s a lot of human closeness for one week. That’s a lot of patience required for one whole week.
While we may have survived the crazy hotel here’s a few tips we’ve rounded up that are essentials for our vacations:
TIP #1: Whether staying at a hotel for just one night or an entire week, the key to happiness is a separate space for the adults. Can I get an amen?
TIP #2: If you can, bring a babysitter with you to help out with the little ones. Whether it’s someone to head inside for nap time or to stay with your kids during the evenings while you and your spouse have a date night, having an extra set of helpful hands can make all the difference in the world between an enjoyable vacation and a stressful one.
TIP #3: Avoid rushing home before the work and school week starts. This vacation we got back Saturday and had all day Sunday to catch up on laundry, rest and reset for the week ahead. Whether it’s a trip for just us or as a family we always try and get home a day before “real life” starts again. It’s made all the difference in the world… it’s like a vacation from your vacation.
TIP #4: Be flexible! Our family is really not the Disney park hoppers so we really just decided last minute to head to Hollywood Studios for just half a day… the other days, we kept it chill with lots of pool time. We’ve found that not having a plan is really the best way for our family to enjoy a vacation… just go with the flow of each day.
